ps: that section of "old defunct bridge" in your photo is all that is left of the north anchor-pier approach onto the old iron trestle bridge that used to be there. If I can find a pic of that old bridge, I will post it 4 U.

(by the by, if anyone from Bonners who I went to school with back then, still lives there and is reading this ...do you remember Mr. Brinkman? the 5th grade teacher at Mt Hall Elementary for a couple of years, who was the band teacher and also a professional photographer and took pictures of everything and everybody up there? I was just looking at some of his pictures that were published in the newpaper then.....

Hi! I spent 4 years in my childhood around Bonners Ferry Idaho, (well, in vicinity anyway, north of Bonners about 30 miles in Good Grief(you will pass it along hiway#95 on your way to Canada), just south of the Canadian border (Eastport/Kingsgate). I went to school at Mt Hall Elementary in 4th, 5th & 6th grade waaaay back when in 1958,'59 and '60. Lived on a stump ranch with no running water or indoor plumbing, tho' we did have electricity! We went into Bonners twice a month for groceries etc, and used to get a quarter to spend in the 5 and dime store or to get a soda at the drugstore soda fountain. You could get a soda float for 15 cents and have enough left for two candy bars at 5 cents each. Gas was 19-20 cents a gallon. The town was bustling then, as logging and the sawmills were booming! In those years, there was a big narrow iron trestle bridge across the river, and the narrow road wound up the north hill on a different route than the one now. That old road slid down the hillside a bunch of years ago, not sure how many, but over 10 years ago, at least. Blow a kiss to the town from me as you virtually pass through, OK?
